This isn’t about mean girls.
Yet somehow, it is.
Today I wrote a guest post for The Red Dress Club, the online writer’s group that inspired me to first talk about my experiences.
It’s about a writer’s “inner voice”, but it can apply to anything in our lives.
My loud voice resembles R. Lee Ermey, from Full Metal Jacket, telling me how worthless I am. How worthless my writing is. He’s hard to ignore until I (or a writing buddy) pull out the duct tape.
But my quiet one laughs at me. It teases me. It tries to beat me down.
It sounds just like a Mean Girl.
Maybe that’s why I can ignore it and write over the giggles and taunts.
My thick skin developed years ago can be bruised, but not broken.
Not anymore.
Don’t let the voices in your head silence you either, even if you have to write anonymously.
I’d love to share your story here.
Thank you to everyone who has shared or submitted one so far. I can’t keep this site alive without you.
You can read my guest post here: The Inner Voice.
I have an inner mean voice who over analyzes every interaction I make after I have been out with people in a social situation. The inner voice says you are being too bossy, too braggy, too loud.
It’s funny, because I’ve beaten my inner mean girl into submission – something I have the Mean Girls in my life to thank for.
Unless it’s about something very close to my heart, such as mother’s guilt/failure or my writing.
Then she still has power and I require duct tape or support.
Thank you for commenting and stopping by.
I think we all have an “inner mean voice”. We are our own toughest critic sometimes. I like the meaning of this site!
Thank you! Please, feel free to pass on the word. It will only succeed if others hear about it and are willing to share their stories.
And yes, our inner critic is the one we can never escape from. And they are MEAN.
Hey! I found you on the Lets Bee Friends hop and I’m so glad I did! This is SUCH a cool site! You totally nailed something that so many of us girls experience. Great post.
Thank you. I’m hoping it will really take off.
If you have a story to tell, by all means, please submit it. That is what will keep the site going.
Thanks for stopping by!
You’re doing great this with this site kelly and your post at TRDC was tremendous
Thank you so much.
Have you any idea how terrified I was to write a guest post there? My piece was simply voicing all of my fears.
Please be sure to send anyone new my way and thank you so much for contributing to it. Send me any other stories you want to share.
I had no idea you had this other blog! Added you to my feed!
It’s brand new, not even a month old really. I’d appreciate you helping get the word out, as it is the only way this will succeed.
And please, if you have any stories to share, please send them to me.
Thank you for having a linky to meet so many others!
Love it! Stopping by from the Let’s BEE friends link up. I just got out of a long rut and realized I had to shut off the Mean Girl voice. It can be a strong and powerful one, that’s for sure. The key is to not let it over-power us!
Yes, the mean girl one I can zone out much better than when it reaches drill Sergeant level. I credit the thick skin I had to grow in my younger years.
Yeah for shutting yours off!
